Micro SD Card
Due to the growing trend of
miniaturization, particularly in the mobile or portable device
sector, the need for smaller storage media has subsequently
become more pressing. But that is not all; consumers also look
for media that can provide ample security, high read-write
speeds, and sufficiently large capacities.
With the challenge set, memory
card manufacturers have answered back with the development of
the Micro SD card. This card is just a fourth of the size of
the already small SD card and provides enough storage and speed
for highly-demanding devices. What’s more, the micro SD card
still retains the security features of regular SD cards. All
these qualities have earned the nod of cell phone
manufacturers, which is the reason why many phones support it.
Other devices that use it are GPS handhelds, digital audio
players, and some digital cameras.
The typical dimensions of a
Micro SD card is 11mm x 15mm x 1mm. It has a mass of only 0.27
grams, the lightest of all memory cards. The maximum capacity
is at 128 MB, quite small compared to regular sized cards.
However, this is mostly sufficient for non-power users. The
speeds of these cards are around 100 Mbps, which are at par to
many other memory card varieties using the same flash
technology.
